Studio TK Shows Freehand Tables at NeoCon 2019

June 10, 2019

Studio TK today announced the introduction of its Freehand Modular Table System designed by PearsonLloyd at showroom #1041 during NeoCon, June 10-12, at The Merchandise Mart, Chicago.

Freehand is a multi-purpose occasional table system designed for commercial interiors of any kind, including lobbies, offices, retail settings and more. Its modular nature and variety of shape and size options allow it to fit any space, serving as a side table or coffee table depending on the layout of the area it occupies. Freehand’s wide range of potential finish combinations yields a product that allows ample expression in commercial interiors, whether specifiers wish to match the top and the sides to fit a consistent brand-centric design scheme, or mix and match to create compelling contrast.

“We were interested in the manipulation of materials,” said Tom Lloyd, PearsonLloyd. “Particularly, we were drawn to the idea of extrusion as a technology. Usually extrusions are used in kind of mass-produced technical products, and we were trying to figure out a way of creating more of a crafted object. And that's something that it's very much a part of the studio’s thinking − how do you make the most of materials, but also keep a human touch in that making process. We were also really interested in the idea of assembly. And Freehand has a wonderfully simple construction technique with these plastic clips, and this top surface that drops in.”

The aesthetic impact of the Freehand collection can be as minimal or extreme as a client wishes. Of the 16 powdercoat paint colors available on the base, eight offer the quiet beauty of a more nature-based palette, while the remaining eight “fashion” colors enable a louder expression. Accompanying these are five precious metal finishes, including gold, brass, silver, copper and nickel. Top material options encompass multiple colorways of leather, felt, linoleum and glass. Along with the 21 base colors and top materials, five geometric base shapes and three heights allow the Freehand collection to be sprinkled across an environment, or command it through the use of multiples. Whether top and base colors are monochromatic and soft, or contrasting and bold, the essence of the collection remains true and creates a calming monolithic presence. This versatility in application paired with the countless finish, material and scale options creates a product that can impact any built environment to a degree determined by the end-user.

“We used to have a one-dimensional landscape in terms of contract furniture. A very limited number of finishes; it was all about the systems culture,” said Tom Lloyd, PearsonLloyd. “Choosing a set of colors that might last five years, we know that the fashions of interior space, just like in fashion, moves so quickly. This allows you to actually respond to customers’ needs very fast.”

In addition to the Freehand Modular Table System, Studio TK is also featuring at NeoCon the Clip Seating Collection by Claesson Koivisto Rune, Havn Seating Collection by Busk+Hertzog and Clique Modular Bench Collection by Mario Ruiz. Visit us at our tenth-floor showroom, #1041.
